Foreword
It is my pleasure to take this chance to recommend this interesting teaching package to primary teachers.
Using a story-telling approach simulating migration of the endangered Black-faced Spoonbill from its breeding to wintering sites, this "Lolo's Flying Journey" package will enhance student's learning effectiveness before, during and after visits to the natural environment. The game board, student worksheets, fact sheets and multi-disciplinary hands-on activities will provide students with a range of interesting and stimulating learning experiences to learn about the relationship between mankind and the environment, particularly on Sustainable Development and Wetland Conservation.
Teachers should find this a good companion for teaching General Studies in primary schools, for broadening students' perspective on local and global sustainable development and conservation issues. By using this pack, student's learning experiences are more varied, activity-based and interactive in nature. Teachers could consider using a more discovery-oriented approach, letting students discover more about the "Lolo's Flying Journey" through the activities, rather than simply being told facts, for more effective learning outcomes.
WWF is indebted to the Quality Education Fund for sponsoring the production of this package, as part of the "Seed of Nature – School-based Education for Sustainable Development Programme". This project represents a further example of WWF's education work that promotions sustainable development through fun, participation and engagement, and we will endeavour to continue to produce more teaching aids to support teachers in their work.
